About the property

Our Waimanalo oasis is available for rent. This has been our home for many years and we built most of it with our own hands with care and love. This is a three bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home situated on a quarter of an acre, located 300 yards from the white sands of Waimanalo beach. The master suite takes up the entire second floor of the house and is 20 x27 with a walk in closet and attached master bath. Master suite has a California king bed and the walls are decorated with each board individually hand stained and then a cream coat painted over the wood. The floor and walk in closet are both completely tiled with over 48,000 smooth, polished river stones. They feel amazing on your feet as you walk around the big, open room. The master suite has a vaulted ceiling and has four huge screened windows that look out on the Ko'olau mountain range, Olo Mana peak, the lava rock pool, and the lush landscaping of the almost 6,000 sq ft back yard. The property is lovingly landscaped with coconut palms, plumeria trees, phoenix palms, hibiscus flowers, and over 30 banana trees that produce delicious Vietnamese bananas. There are two overstuffed chairs from Bali to sit in to enjoy the view while you sip your coffee and watch the sun hit the mountain tops as it climbs out of the ocean every morning. The master suite has a powerful 18,000 btu split AC unit with remote. The downstairs has a kitchen with a four burner electric stove with oven, full size refrigerator with ice maker, Cuisinart, Blender, toaster, microwave, and a dishwasher. Fully stocked with cups, bowls, plates, silverware, kitchen knives, baking bowls and pans, everything you could need. The downstairs suite with a California king bed and the room is 16 x 12 and has a mirrored closet and an attached half bath that opens up on to the huge covered deck. The suite has a desk and chair, and a handmade shelf dresser for clothes storage. It has a powerful 12,000 btu split AC. The Bali bathroom is attached to the downstairs suite and is a half bath with a stone sink, a river stone floor, dimmable lights, and Bali wood carvings that act as frames for the screened windows. This half bath has a separate door to make it accessible from the covered deck. The outdoor covered deck measures 28' x 21' and has a vaulted ceiling that reaches to just shy of 16' at the center. The interior of the roof is covered in bamboo lauhala matting and there are four 10' ohi'a posts on each corner of the deck. The ohi'a posts stand on lava rock pillars that my wife and I built and stained ourselves. The pillars and posts hold up the massive beams that are 16 inches thick. The deck has 4 Sonos speakers mounted on the top of each post so you can enjoy surround sound while sitting on the 10 piece wrap around sofa and watch the sky turn pink as the last rays of the sun peek over the mountains and the sun sets off Waikiki. There are dimmable wooden lights that look like upside down artichokes and a Bali basket light to illuminate the deck at night. There are also old fashioned Edison style bulbs that ring the massive beams and provide atmospheric style lighting. The white bathroom is a full bath between the downstairs suite and the guest room. It has a stone sink made from a cross section of a petrified tree and has surfboard fins mounted into the tile so you can hang your surf shorts and bikinis and let them drip dry in the shower. The guest room has a California king bed and measures 12 x 10 and has a closet and handmade shelf dresser. The ceiling was handpainted by my wife and shows the Ko'olau mountains and the sunrise from the beach with the Mokulua islands and Rabbit island. There is an ohi'a post tree in the corner of the room with synthetic leaves and vines that make it feel as if it were a portal into a forest. The guest room has an 8,000 btu split AC. Between the kitchen and the downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms is the dining area. It has a beautiful handmade monkeypod wood table with two matching wooden benches. Walk down the 20' wide stairs to the the downstairs family room, which is 30' x 20'. Relax on the Balinese Teak wood pune'e, or day bed, or in the overstuffed loveseat, and watch a movie on the 88 inch TV with Sonos playbar speaker. The family room has 9 and a half foot ceilings and 16' wide Fleetwood sliding doors that open out on to the back yard and lava rock pool. The family room wall is a work of art, with hand stained 12 inch wood planks, lava rock stones, and dimmable custom basket lights. Step out of the family room into the 6,000 sq ftback yard and turn left to access the outdoor kitchen, bar, and grill area. The outdoor kitchen has a four burner stove with oven, a full size fridge with ice maker, a four seat bar with barstools, and epoxy countertops. A Weber Silver Genesis gas grill is six feet away, tucked under the panix and banana trees. The outdoor kitchen and bar has Edison style string lights, bamboo lauhala matting on the roof, a dimmable overhead lantern style light, and a Sonos playbar speaker for music. The outdoor kitchen is stocked with non breakable plates, cups, bowls, and silverware. Plus cutting boards, platters, and a rice cooker. The center countertop that faces the four barstools has a deep stainless steel sink with hot and cold water. Across the yard is a lava rock pool surrounded by lush landscaping. You can follow the wide lava rock stepping stones that sweep across the yard to the pool steps. Descending into the pool you feel like you're in a jungle lagoon, surrounded by monstera, hibiscus, bromiliads, phoenix palms, and banana trees. The shallow end is 4 feet deep and the deep end is 7 feet deep. The pool is roughly 32' x 16'. Next to the outdoor kitchen and bar are the washer and dryer, enclosed to protect them from the elements. There are 12 Sonos speakers throughout the property: two in the master suite, two in the kitchen, one in the dining room, the TV playbar and the playbar in the outdoor kitchen, one in the downstairs suite, and four on the covered deck. They can all be played individually or together via the Sonos app, and each speaker's volume can be adjusted independently. There is a landscape lighting system that comes on at dusk and goes off at 10pm. It can be set to go on and off at whatever times you select. The lights illuminate the banana trees and landscaping that border the property, in both the front and back yard. There is a 5 station sprinkler that operates on a timer to keep the landscaping watered and lush. The property comes with a weekly pool cleaning and maintenance service. Yard service and house cleaning service are every two weeks. Our home has 28 PV panels and a solar hot water heater. There is a Tesla wall charger if you own a Tesla. All utilities are included in the monthly rent: basic cable, Internet, water, sewer, and electric. There is a cap of $100/ month on the electric that is included with the rent. If you rent long term and charge your Tesla or run the AC a lot, you will pay the overage to us monthly. There are 7 ceiling fans in our home. We find that that is enough to keep us cool most of the year, and we use the AC only occasionally. If you walk out the front gate and turn left, in two minutes you will be standing on the white sands of Waimanalo beach. It is a 5 mile stretch of beach with the most beautiful turquoise ocean and no coral heads to stub your toes on. Waimanalo is a gem. The Hawaiian's call Waimanalo "God's country." The kupuna, or spiritual leaders, used to convene in Waimanalo because they could feel the powerful "mana" or energy, that is special to Waimanalo. Come and see for yourself. There is no place in the island quite like it.
